Hong Kong

Vietnam  --  Taiwan  --  Home

Sunday, January 13

We safely made it to Hong Kong via Minneapolis and Tokyo. We arrived at our hotel a little after 1 A.M. Time didn't seem to matter, as we all just knew that 14 hours on a plane was VERY long, then to have a 2 hour layover in Japan, before getting on a rather turbulent and nerve racking 4 hour plus airplane ride in Hong Kong. The airport was about 1 hour to our hotel. We stayed on the 18th floor, the view was beautiful, with the lights across the night skyline.

Hotel for Jan 13 stay

Photo: The view from the hotel that we stayed in.

This morning we were treated to a beautiful day, perfect temp, light breeze.

Our first Breakfast in Hong Kong was on our own. For some of us the first restaurant we went to, the menu was all in characters and had no pictures, so we walked on and found a place with a picture menu similar to a food kiosk at the airport. We pointed at the picture to place our order. We all linked back together and boarded our bus for our first stop of the day.

Dim Sum luncheon

Enjoying a Dim Sum luncheon at The One (Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong) hosted by Pet-Link Co. and sponsored by John Miller, LEAD IV, of Oxbow Animal Health Products.

"The One" building is very famous, has several floors of mall shopping (no we did not get to shop). We were joined by Ben, a marketing rep from Oxbow Animal Health Products, who gave us a very nice presentation of how a husband and wife team in China, Googled and found John Miller, who lived in Nebraska and together they manufacture small animal food. Everyone loves small animals and Hong Kong is no different, even with their limited space, they treasure this addition to their household.

In the fishing village were found everything from-multi million dollar yachts to one man fishing boats. Many local fishermen live on their boats.

LEAD 31 group at the statue of Buddha of Mercy at Repulse Bay on southern Hong Kong Island. Repulse Bay is famous for the expensive (feung shui) houses overlooking the bay to the west. The sand for the beach at Repulse Bay was imported from mainland China for over $15 million U.S. dollars

Ladies Night Marke

After a Dim Sum dinner many of the LEAD 31 fellows shopped at the Ladies Night Market, Electronics Street and Sneaker Street in Kowloon. Many tried their hand at bargaining with the local merchants for a good deal. The fellows enjoyed purchasing chopsticks, fans, souvenirs and electronic items./

Shown are Brandon C., Jeremy R., Tony J., Jerad H., Sean M. and Michael W.
