Edinburgh Castle

Photo of Edinburgh Castle.

Edinbourgh Castle was built 1100 years ago. It was never captured, but they surrendered. It is the second largest castle in the United Kingdom. It is still used today as a base for the Scottish Military. The crown jewels of Scotland and the stone of destiny are on display at the castle. This was the birthplace of King James VI.

The luck of the Irish left us at the Irish coast as our bus driver for the day took ill. Instead, we were treated to a very enjoyable walk of the Royal Mile and up to the Edinburgh Castle. This proved to be a very enjoyable experience. Later, we met our substitute driver for a sightseeing tour of the city.

We enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant and had lamb, gravy and vegtables. We had Contoria for dessert. The serving was tiny, but mighty delicious.

We concluded the afternoon with a meeting with Ian Gardner, marketing managerof National Trust for Scotland. Mr. Gardner explained about the various projects his organization contributes for the good of Scotland.

A very short doorway used at the castle. Back in the day, solders wearing heavy armor would not have been able to rush in.

They produce winter and spring wheat, barley, oats, oil seed rape, and 4000 laying hens.
