Nebraska Agricultural Leadership Council Mission Statement:
To prepare and motivate men and women in agriculture for more effective leadership.
The Nebraska Agricultural Leadership Council fulfills this mission through the Nebraska LEAD Program.
About Our Mission
The Nebraska LEAD Program prepares agricultural leaders to meet the evolving challenges facing Nebraska, agriculture and rural communities. Fellows gain the knowledge, experiences and leadership skills needed to think broadly, engage thoughtfully and lead effectively in a changing world.
Modern agriculture requires more than production expertise. It requires leaders who can navigate complex issues across several dimensions:
- Educational: Expanding beyond technical expertise to include government, economics and social and cultural understanding.
- Agricultural Diversity: Building common ground across Nebraska’s diverse regions, production systems and perspectives.
- Political: Developing leadership capacity in a society where fewer individuals have direct ties to agriculture and influence must be more intentional and informed.
- Economic & Global: Understanding agriculture’s role in an increasingly interconnected global economy, including food systems, trade and natural resources.
Through these experiences, Nebraska LEAD Fellows graduate with a broader perspective, a deeper respect for agriculture’s heritage, and the ability to listen, evaluate, and lead with integrity on complex issues.
That is the mission of the Nebraska LEAD Program: to prepare agricultural leaders for the future.
